"I always wondered, why do we practice on out-of-tune, squeaky, unstable chanters? I’d often find myself doing everything I could with reed manipulation and taping holes to get chanters remotely in tune. Often, the problems were consistent with sharp High G’s, flat F’s and C’s ubiquitous across most chanters. If practice is meant to refine the ear and improve playing, why not elevate the instrument itself? Surely, we can do better and get instruments closer in tune without completely altering every hole or relying on that “one special reed” that happens to work. That’s why I designed the Hilton Chanter™—to bridge the gap between practice and performance.
